The National Young Leaders’ Day Secondary Schools Event in Christchurch has had to be cancelled. “It’s really sad,” says Annette Fale, Manager of NYLD, department of Parents Inc, “but there just doesn’t seem to be any way we can make it work this year”.
The event for secondary school students was to be to be held on Thursday, 2 June 2011, at La Vida Centre, Riccarton. “Normally, schools are delighted to send their budding leaders to our events”, says Annette, “but we realise that schools have been hugely disrupted in Christchurch due to the recent earthquake, and this has dramatically changed the climate for this event. We were really looking forward to hosting the event, and I know the students that had already booked to attend will be disappointed, so it is with sadness that we have had to cancel.”
NYLD events, which have been running since 2001, feature top speakers and role models. “We know we’ll be back in Christchurch again, but this year it’s just been too tough for both sponsors and schools”.
The NYLD events for Primary & Intermediate school students in Christchurch on May 31 & June 1st will still go ahead as planned.
