What teachers say about NYLD….
Without a doubt NYLD is a WINNER! Student leaders from our school are continually inspired, motivated and captured by the many journeys shared by selected speakers. The smorgasbord of talented young people, sprinkled with the more mature gives a truly balanced perspective and feast of successful and amazing NZers. If growing young leadership in your school is your passion, don’t miss this!
Kim Solomon, Deputy Principal, Kaitao Middle School, Rotorua
“Malfroy School have attended NYLD for the last two years with our senior student leadership group, called the Ambassadors. On both occasions the students have returned to school inspired and motivated to succeed in their personal endeavours, be it in the classroom, on the sports field or at home. Do the best they can is the key message they have picked up from the various speakers. We are a Cornerstone Values school, so our students can readily identify with the core values of leadership as supported by the Halogen Foundation, namely People, Integrity, Responsibility and Generosity. We look forward to returning to this year’s event with a new group of young leaders from our school. Thank you!”
Nick Brell, Malfroy School
Churchill Park sends its Young Leaders every year, as the programme is a great balance of inspiration, motivation and excitement and is perfectly balanced for the age group it targets. Our students come away with greater belief in themselves and buzzing with ideas to share with the school. It is the highlight of our annual leadership programme.
Vicki Smith, Associate Principal, Churchill Park School, Auckland
I have been attending the Young Leaders Days for the past seven years and every year i walk away feeling fresh and inspired, which i then bring to my classroom. Each year we select a group of Year 12 students with leadership potential and use the Young Leaders Day as a platform to get them involved in their school and community. Last year a group of students who attended returned to the school and started an anti-bullying project.
They have stuck with this project and continue to work on it this year.
The speakers involved come from so many different walks of life and cross so many fields that there is always something for someone and the students feel connected. It is also a really good place for students to network with students from other schools, a skill that will help our young leaders in the future.
