Passing the leadership baton
October 2 2014
For the past 14 years I have had the honour of leading the movement of National Young Leaders Days in New Zealand. Even though I have talked about leadership for many years, the hard part of leadership that probably no-one likes to talk about is ‘when is it time to move on’. I knew my time was coming to close however I was struggling with leaving something behind that I am so passionate about and still admire even 14 years on.
I could have stayed out of complacency and being comfortable but I knew that this might not be the best for NYLD going forward. After much discussion, conversations and wisdom from colleagues, family and friends, I decided it was time to pass the baton onto a younger team. After passing the baton I can now see that this was the best thing and as a result a new challenge presented itself on the horizon for me. My new role still gives me the opportunity to mix in the leadership arena and support the work of NYLD going forward. I look forward to seeing what NYLD achieves for the future of our youth here in Aotearoa.
